KUALA LUMPUR: A man, believed to be an illegal immigrant, was arrested on suspicion of deliberately jumping in front of a moving vehicle, resulting in a road accident in Bandar Sungai Long here last Tuesday.
The incident, which was caught in a clip that went viral on social media, showed the man in a red shirt standing by the roadside before suddenly jumping towards an oncoming vehicle and falling after being hit by the vehicle.
Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the suspect was arrested today after police were alerted to a viral clip.
"Initial investigations showed the incident is believed to have occurred at 11.53am on Sept 17.
"However, the man, believed to be a foreigner, left the scene with minor injuries and no details or identification were obtained from him.
"Acting on information, police arrested a 32-year-old foreigner at Bandar Sungai Long, Kajang, believed to be involved in the incident, at 6pm today," he said.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 336 of the Penal Code for endangering the life or safety of others.
"The case is also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as the suspect did not possess any valid identification documents.
