SHAH ALAM: A foreign woman who was seen arrested by police in a viral video tested positive for cannabis use.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed in a statement that the 32-year-old Russian national became homeless after failing to return to her country due to insufficient funds.
"Upon arriving at the scene, police found a woman in a state of intoxication with her dog, behaving aggressively before her arrest.
"Subsequent checks revealed that she lacked valid identification and had been living in Malaysia," he said in a statement.
The woman was then taken to the district police headquarters, while her dog was handed over to the Shah Alam Municipal Council.
Iqbal said police obtained a remand order to detain the woman for 14 days, until Oct 22.
"Investigations are underway under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act, which stipulates a fine of up to RM10,000, imprisonment for a maximum of five years, or both, and up to six strokes of the cane upon conviction,' he said.
Earlier yesterday, a 49-second viral video emerged showing the woman pinned down by police as she attempted to resist arrest, with her dog by her side.
