KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly 40 members of Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH) are set to be rearrested today under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) following the expiration of their remand.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the remand orders for 34 GISBH members expired today.
"Based on statements gathered during our investigations, these suspects will be rearrested under Sosma," he said today.
Razarudin also confirmed that remand extensions had been obtained for 24 GISBH members, including key individuals in the organisation's leadership.
These members will remain in custody until Sept 29 for further investigation under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Act.
He added that 127 others arrested in the same operation would be released on bail once their remand period expires.
"We encourage those released on bail to come forward if they need welfare support," said Razarudin, adding that the authorities were determined to bring all responsible for various offences to justice using the full extent of the law.
"Our goal is to maintain peace and public order at all times."
GISBH has been under intense police scrutiny following raids on Sept 11 at 20 welfare homes allegedly operated by the organisation, which resulted in the rescue of 402 children.
Subsequent screenings revealed that many of the children had suffered physical and emotional abuse, with 13 reportedly victims of sexual assault, including sodomy.
GISBH has denied all allegations of child exploitation and sexual abuse.
