KULAI: Police arrested three men, including a teenager, suspected of attempted cable theft in Taman Pancasila in Saleng, here, yesterday.
District police chief Superintendent Tan Seng Lee said the suspects, aged between 17 and 33, were arrested in two simultaneous raids in Johor Baru at 4.30pm.
Police also seized a car, two mobile phones, RM8,800 and short aluminium rods bundled in a piece of cloth.
He said the teenager had no previous criminal record but the other two had prior drug- and theft-related records.
Their arrests followed a police report filed on Sept 30 by a 39-year-old telecommunications company officer after he found the cables had been cut and left lying on the road.
Tan said, with the trio's arrest, the case was considered solved.
However, investigations are ongoing to determine the suspects' involvement in other criminal activities.
Efforts are also in place to flush out two accomplices who are still at large.
The case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code, for mischief by cutting electric telegraph cables, wires, lines, post, instrument or apparatus for signaling.
If found guilty, they can face up to two years in prison, a fine or both.
