TUMPAT: The General Operations Force (GOF) detained two men and seized 100kg of pig carcasses in its Op Taring Wawasan here yesterday.
Its Southeast brigade commander, Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid, said a team from GOF's Ninth Battalion stopped a Toyota Hilux during a surveillance near Pos Mentua about 5am.
"After inspecting the vehicle, the team found about 100kg of pig carcasses.
"The carcasses, believed to have been smuggled from Thailand, were found without proper documentation.
"The officers nabbed the two suspects, aged 33 and 36," he said in a statement today.
He added that the two were believed to have been couriers to send the carcasses to Malaysian buyers.
He said the seized carcasses were estimated to be about RM5,800.
"The two are being held for further action and the case is being investigated under Section 36(1) of the Animals Act 1953."
