TUMPAT: The General Operations Force has foiled an attempt to smuggle over 5,000kg of pig carcasses from Thailand.
GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said its personnel found the carcasses in a lorry that was stopped at Wakaf Bharu last night.
The lorry driver and his attendant did not have the necessary documentation for the pig carcasses.
Nik Ros said the two men, aged 23 and 25, were arrested.
The pig carcasses, worth about RM205,000, and the lorry were seized.
"We believe the two suspects were hired to deliver the carcasses to a local market," he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 36(1) of the Animals Act, which relates to disease control.
Separately, Nik Ros said three men were arrested for possession of 110 Yaba pills and heroin in an operation in Rantau Panjang last night.
He added that the three, including two Thai nationals, were detained at Kampung Kubang Kuau around 11pm.
The three suspects, aged between 24 and 37, were detained for further action.
