KLUANG: Police said the cause of the death of the 75-year-old woman who died in the elephant attack yesterday (Aug 3) was due to severe injuries to her organs as well as internal bleeding.
District police chief Assistant Commisioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said Misirah Saniman suffered fractures to both the left and right ribs, as well as internal bleeding in the chest during the tragic incident.
He added that the victim also sustained a tear in the heart, spinal fractures, and internal bleeding in the abdomen due to a tear in the liver.
Bahrin also ruled out any criminal elements over the death of the woman.
"A complainant identified as 44-year-old Razali Rabon saw the victim unconscious after she was attacked by elephants at about 7am.
"The complainant immediately took the victim to the Kahang Batu 22 Health Clinic for further treatment.
"The victim was confirmed dead at 8.20am," he said in a statement.
He said police found elephant footprints as well as the victim's glasses and rubber tapping tools at the scene.
Bahrin added that the case has been classified as sudden death after a post-mortem was conducted on the victim's body at the Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital here.
It was reported that Misirah was found by Indonesian workers from a nearby oil palm plantation in Kahang.
Her daughter Norlaili Salle said she was informed by her son who lives in Kluang that Misirah was attacked by elephants.
She added Misirah had been a rubber tapper from a young age.
