JOHOR BARU: Police are wrapping up investigations into the case of a babysitter suspected of abusing a 2-month-old infant, which resulted in a fractured left thigh.
The case will soon be handed over to the deputy public prosecutor's office.
Johor Baru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said the 36-year-old suspect has been released on police bail after the remand period expired.
"The investigation papers are still with the investigating officer.
"The suspect was released on bail last Wednesday while the investigation is being completed," he said today.
The suspect, who was detained on July 22, was remanded for six days following a report filed by the baby's parents.
The remand period was later extended for an additional three days.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
The baby's mother expressed her frustration on social media after she and her husband noticed something wrong with their child after picking up the baby from the caregiver's home in Bandar Dato' Onn.
The baby was said to have cried frequently, especially during diaper changes, and refused to drink milk.
The couple took their child to the hospital, where an X-ray revealed that the baby's thigh was fractured.
