Year Six pupil hurt in the neck by relative armed with fork

KUANTAN: A Year Six pupil suffered minor injuries to the neck when he was attacked by a relative armed with a fork.

The 25-year-old suspect, an undergraduate, was believed to be suffering from depression.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said policemen from the Jaya Gading station were deployed to the scene after they were alerted about a misunderstanding between two people at a housing settlement.

"Investigations revealed both the attacker and victim were related to and lived near each other. The suspect had caused injuries to the victim's neck using a fork.

"After the incident, the victim ran towards one of the houses nearby and the owner of that house got involved in an argument with the suspect.

"After police arrived, the victim and suspect were taken to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital and both received outpatient treatment," he said in a statement.

Wan Zahari said checks revealed the suspect, who is studying at a public university in a neighbouring state, has been experiencing emotional distress over the past few days.

"The suspect has no previous records and his urine test came back negative. Police are still investigating the incident and we urge the public not to speculate on the matter."
