GEORGE TOWN: A motorcyclist, who claimed trial at the magistrate's court here today for hurling verbal abuse at a traffic policeman for issuing him with a summons, will be taken to the Penang Remand Prison here.
As at 4.45pm, no one had come forward to settle the RM8,000 bail imposed by the magistrate's court earlier today.
A police spokesman confirmed that no one had come forward to bail out the accused.
"The bail amount of RM8,000 is also not paid," he told the New Straits Times.
This morning, unemployed Goh Weng Keong, 25, claimed trial to humiliating Corporal Nik Muhammad Faizal Nik Long by hurling verbal abuse in front of a bus stop at Jalan Thean Teik, Air Itam, about 6.45pm on Wednesday.
He was charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of five years' jail and a fine upon conviction.
The action was caught on video and has since gone viral.
Magistrate Nadratun Naim Mohd Saidi set bail at RM8,000 with one surety.
Goh was escorted into a police truck about 4.36pm along with other accused persons. He covered his face when led to the police truck.
