Two cops face suspension for allegedly extorting money from foreign couple

KAJANG: The two policemen who allegedly extorted money from a foreign couple will be suspended from active duty.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the order to suspend both personnel was considered the earliest action on the police side once the case has been charged in court.

"On the disciplinary aspect, an investigation was initiated as soon as the report was lodged.

"Appropriate action will be taken once the disciplinary investigations are completed," he said when contacted on Friday.

Previously, two videos circulated on Telegram, allegedly showing policemen extorting money from a foreign couple.

The first video showed the two men in blue uniforms, wearing motorcycle helmets and standing next to two motorcycles, talking to a man in a grey T-shirt and jeans.

As the three men talked, a woman was seen slumped against a parked car with her head covered with a piece of cloth. She also appeared to be unconscious or unwell. Two policemen attached to the Kajang police headquarters were arrested for extortion.

The two were charged at the Kajang Court today.
