Yusoff Rawther pleads not guilty to possessing imitation guns

KUALA LUMPUR: Former research assistant Muhammed Yusoff Rawther pleaded not guilty to possessing two imitation guns last month.

His lawyer, Rafique Rashid, said Yusoff was charged under Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960 before magistrate S. Mageswary.

Yusoff is accused of possessing the imitation guns near Jalan Bukit Kiara on Sept 6.

The offence carries a one-year jail term, a maximum RM5,000 fine, or both.

Rafique added that Yusoff claimed he was framed by those in power.

The court set Nov 12 for mention.

Yusoff, who has an ongoing civil lawsuit against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over an alleged sexual assault, was previously arrested on Sept 6 after police allegedly found two pistols and 305g of marijuana in the car he was travelling in.

On Sept 11, he was charged with trafficking 305 g of cannabis.

He pleaded not guilty.

The drug charge, under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, carries a life sentence and no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane.
