Mahdzir ready to assist MACC in 1BestariNet investigation

KUALA LUMPUR: Former education minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said he is ready to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in its investigation into the 1BestariNet case.

Mahdzir, who was the education minister from 2015 to 2018, said that, so far, he has not received any notice to appear at the MACC office.

"As of now, I have only been informed about the matter through media portal reports that mentioned my name among those likely to be called by MACC to assist in the investigation of the case.

"I am ready to cooperate with the MACC investigation at any time if required to provide a statement," he said in a statement today.

An online news portal reported that the MACC may call up a former education minister to assist in the investigation into the 1BestariNet case, which involves a company appointed by the Education Ministry to provide broadband services to 8,000 schools and is alleged to have made false claims.

Sources close to the investigation indicated that Mahdzir's name is on the investigators' list, along with former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Mahdzir, who served as the education minister, said he understands that his name would be included among those to give a statement in order to complete the MACC's investigation into the case.
