IPOH: More than 14 types of drugs worth RM545,676.43 seized across the state between 2000 and last year will be disposed of by Perak police.
The drugs will be destroyed using an incinerator at a waste management facility in Bukit Pelanduk, Negri Sembilan, while the ketum will be disposed at a sanitary landfill site for solid waste in Papan.
Perak police deputy chief, Deputy Commissioner Zulkafli Sariaat, said all of the drugs were the result of raids and seizures carried out and completed all court proceedings.
"Among the drugs are 9.08 kg of heroin, 7.05 kg of ganja, 750 ml of ganja liquid, 1.62 kg of syabu, 479.2 g of syabu liquid, 479.2 g of ketamine, 3.17 kg of ketum leaves, and others.
"The total amount for the disposal conducted is estimated to be RM545,676.43, involving 4,313 investigation papers from the year 2000 to 2023 for cases that have completed their trials," he said in a press conference today.
Zulkafli said the total number of drug offenders arrested in the state from January to August this year was 14,234 individuals.
"A total of 1,771 individuals were arrested between January and August for various drug distribution offences, which is an increase of 32 cases compared to 1,739 individuals in 2023.
"Out of that total, 366 individuals were arrested under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death penalty, while 88 individuals were arrested under the Special Preventive Measures Act 1985," he said.
He said most of them are the masterminds or planners, as well as financiers, in the syndicate that was dismantled this year.
He added that the total drug seizure for distribution and possession cases has resulted in the confiscation of various types of drugs amounting to RM5.9 million.
"Methamphetamine, heroin, and ketamine are the most seized drugs in Perak between January and August this year," he said.
