KUALA LUMPUR: Drugs seized in various raids since 2003, enough to supply 1.2 million users, will be incinerated today, said Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa.
He said the drugs, valued at RM36.43 million, would be disposed of as the court cases associated with them have been concluded.
"These drugs were connected to 2,844 investigation papers from 2003 to 2023.
"Among the drugs set to be destroyed includes 285.53kg of methamphetamines worth RM34.43million, 70.24kg of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) worth RM 1.05million and 8.67kg of ganja worth RM433,000," he told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters here today.
He said the other drugs to be disposed off were 8.81kg of heroin worth RM308,000, 189.66liters of liquid ketum worth RM18,000 as well as 1.91kg of substances and 786.32liters of chemicals used to process drugs.
"The entire process will comply with the Inspector-General of Police Standing Orders.
"To meet the environmental standards, the Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) will be using the services of a company that specialises in the the handling of waste," he said, adding that the drugs would be disposed off at a facility that converts scheduled waste to energy.
He said the drugs would be transported to the facility which is located at Bukit Pelandok, Negri Sembilan.
Meanwhile, Rusdi encouraged the public to channel any information on drug activities to the police.
"We will keep the identities of informants strictly confidential," he said.
