KUANTAN: A 35-year-old trader lost RM244,000 of her savings after being promised high returns of up to 300 per cent in an online investment scheme.
Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman reported that the female trader discovered the investment, allegedly offered by an overseas-based company, through Facebook on July 11 this year.
"She was assured of returns between five and 300 per cent from her total investment. The victim was instructed to download an application known as ECMT Pro from a given link.
"The victim made 11 transactions amounting to RM244,000 into three separate bank accounts between Aug 21 and Oct 3.
"She only realised that the investment was a scam after failing to receive any returns as promised by the agent," he said, adding the victim had utilised her savings for the scheme.
Yahaya said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code and advised the public to be extra careful with online investment schemes that offer unrealistic high returns.
