Woman arrested for smuggling junk food

TUMPAT: A woman was caught smuggling several boxes of junk food in Pengkalan Kubor yesterday.

General Operations Force (GOF) Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the 50-year-old was arrested.

"GOF personnel at the Pengkalan Kubor immigration complex checked the woman's car and found boxes containing the food worth about RM1,700, and arrested the woman," he said in a statement.

He said the woman, a local, was believed to have been hired by an individual to deliver the items to buyers.

On another case, he said GOF personnel seized smuggled frozen chicken worth nearly RM7,000 here yesterday.

However, he said no one was arrested in the operation at the Aziz illegal jetty.

He said a car that was used to transport the frozen chicken was also seized in the 9.30am operation.
