Driver in UiTM Dungun accident charged with murder [WATCH]

DUNGUN: The driver of the sports utility vehicle (SUV) involved in the accident that claimed the lives of three Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) students last Wednesday, was charged with murder in the magistrate's court here today.

The 49-year-old arrived at the court around 8.30am, escorted by police. Also present were her husband and several individuals believed to be family members.

She had previously been remanded for four days and extended for an additional two days until today.

Norizan Ismail, 49, faces three charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which were read separately before magistrate Nur Amira Fatihah Osman.

The accused is charged with committing murder by causing the deaths of Muhammad Akmal Md Tukirin, 25; Ku Adib Aizad Ku Azmi, 20; and Khairil Anuar Jamaluddin, 20.

The offences allegedly took place on Jalan Pantai in front of UiTM at 7.35pm on Oct 9.

She faces a death sentence or imprisonment for a term of not less than 30 years but not exceeding 40 years, and if not sentenced to death, must also be subjected to caning of not less than 12 strokes if found guilty.

The court ordered the accused to undergo a mental examination at Permai Hospital in Johor Baru and set Nov 17 as the next mention date for the case.

Deputy Public Prosecutors Azizan Abdullah and Nur Azhani Azman appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by lawyer Nur Farahin Shazlin Mohd Redhuan Shah Edwin.

Additionally, the accused, who is also a mother of three children, is expected to face another charge in the Kuala Terengganu Sessions Court.

In the 7.35pm incident on Oct 9, the woman collided with two motorcycles ridden by the four students who were on their way back to campus.

The victims were Ku Adib Aizab Ku Azmi, 20; Khairul Anwar Jamaluddin, 20; and Muhammad Akmal Md Tukirin, 25, while Muhammad Ammar Danish Mohamad Ridhuan, 20, sustained injuries.
