MUAR: The younger brother of one of the three Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Dungun students who died in an accident last night could not believe that a strange dream he had recently was a premonition of his brother's death.
Muhammad Faiq Syahmi Md Tukirin, the younger brother of the late Muhammad Akmal Tukirin, 20, said he had dreamt of his tooth falling out — a premonition of the death of a close relative based on an old belief — a fortnight ago but shrugged it off.
"About two weeks ago, I had a strange dream where my tooth fell out. But I didn't think much of it until I was informed of my brother's passing.
"It was destined, and though it's hard to accept, I have come to terms with it. This is a heavy trial for us to endure.
"I last saw him two weeks before he returned to campus, as his semester break had ended.
"He was the second of us four brothers," he said when met at his home in Kampung Parit Baru, Batu 18.
The Pontian Matriculation College student said Akmal was always cheerful and often joked whenever he was home.
He said his father, Md Tukirin Saringat, mother Rafeah Buang, 51, and other family members rushed to Terengganu immediately after receiving a call about Akmal.
Akmal and two other UiTM students, Khairil Anwar Jamaludin, 20, and Ku Adib Aizad Ku Azmi, 20, were killed when a car rammed into their motorcycles from behind as they were on their way to the university.
All victims were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
