TAMPARULI: Repair works on Jalan Tamparuli-Kiulu, affected by land subsidence near Kampung Malanggang Baru for the past three days, begin today.
Tuaran member of parliament Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau said equipment and bulldozers have arrived at the site of the damage to start the repairs.
"The Public Works Department says repair works on the road section from Km7.6 to Km7.65 near Kampung Malanggang Baru will begin today.
"For Jalan Lawa Mondau-Tombongon in Kiulu, the bulldozer arrived at the damage site this afternoon, and repairs are scheduled to begin tomorrow," he said in a statement.
The incident, which occurred three days ago, affected more than 1,000 road users of the busy route.
It was reported that the subsidence was caused by damage to the drainage system beneath the road, leading to a 50m section of the right lane sinking.
The Public Works Department has advised users travelling in both directions to use alternative routes via Jalan Bungoliu-Logkou-Timbok, Jalan Kiulu-Logkou Lama, and Jalan Kiulu-Lawa Mandau to reach Pekan Kiulu.
Heavy vehicles have been advised to avoid these alternative routes to prevent further damage to the drainage systems.
