Man arrested after neighbours foil child abduction attempt in Kuang

KUANG: A group of concerned neighbours performed a citizen's arrest on a foreign man who had allegedly attempted to abduct a child here.

Sungai Buloh police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said the incident allegedly occurred around 12:40pm yesterday at Kampung Bunga Raya, Kuang.

"We received a report from a 47-year-old man who claimed he heard one of his neighbours screaming for help at that time.

"The neighbour told him that a man tried to abduct her child," he said in a statement today.

He said the complainant went to his neighbour's house and saw an unknown man running away.

"The complainant and several other residents chased after the man and caught up to him near a rubbish disposal site and in that process, a scuffle occurred.

"They managed to detain the man and handed him over to the police for further action when they arrived at the scene moments later," he said, adding police have opened an investigation paper under Section 363 of the Penal Code for kidnap.

He said two videos of the incident are circulating on social media.

"One of the videos shows the suspect being questioned by members of the public after he was bound while another shows the same suspect lying on the ground after being tied up.

Mohd Hafiz said pictures had also been posted on social media with the caption, "Kes curi kanak kanak di Kampung Bunga Raya Kuang, Rawang Selangor."

He advised the public to always abide by the law.

Those with information on the incident can contact the investigating officer, Inspector Mohamad Azammudin Mohd Razib at 016-566 1597 or go to the nearest police station.
