KUALA KRAI: A Pakistani man's attempt to bribe a policeman with RM200 for the release of his worker led to trouble for both, as he was caught for bribery and misusing his work permit.
Kuala Krai police chief Superintendent Mazlan Mamat said the incident happened at a spare part shop in Kampung Tok Bok here on Monday.
He added a police party conducted a check at the shop after they suspected it was operating without a licence.
"The team went to the shop at 9.30am and after conducting checks on a foreign worker, they found that he had misused his working permit.
"When one of the policemen tried to arrest the 25-year-old Pakistan worker, his employer, also a Pakistani, offered RM200 to the policeman as an inducement not to take action against his worker.
"The policeman rejected the money and later arrested the employer and the worker, who was supposed to work in the agricultural sector in Johor as stated in his permit," he said in a statement.
Mazlan said the 51-year-old employer was detained for bribing the policemen under Section 17 (B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act 2009.
The worker was handed over to the Immigration department for further action.
