KUALA LUMPUR: The snatch thief who seriously injured an elderly woman in Bangsar recently has been caught.
Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the suspect was believed to have also been involved in another case near a petrol station in Brickfields on the same day.
"At around 6.15am on the same day the suspect snatched the sling bag of a victim at the petrol station. The bag contained cash, bank cards and the victim's house keys.
"The suspect was wearing a black jacket and was riding a motorcycle," he said, adding that police managed to apprehend the suspect in Ampang on Thursday evening.
He said investigations revealed the suspect was involved in both cases.
"He has been remanded for six days to facilitate further investigations. We have classified the case under sections 394 and 392 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery and robbery, respectively," he said.
It was reported that a 78-year-old woman was seriously injured during a snatch theft in Bangsar on Monday.
The victim was walking along Jalan Limau Manis about 6.30am when the incident occurred.
She suffered injuries to her head and had to be treated at University Malaya Medical Centre.
At the time of the incident, the victim was on her way to buy a newspaper, which was her routine every morning.
A video of the incident went viral, showing the elderly woman in a pink T-shirt being robbed by a motorcyclist, causing her to fall.
