KUALA LUMPUR: A 78-year-old woman was seriously injured during a snatch theft in Bangsar early today.
Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the victim was walking along Jalan Limau Manis about 6.30am when the incident occurred.
He said she suffered injuries to her head and had to be treated at University Malaya Medical Centre.
"At the time of the incident, the victim was on her way to buy a newspaper... it was her routine every morning.
"There were no valuables in the bag (which was snatched by a man on a motorcycle).
"She was bleeding from the head, which is quite serious, and is still under the observation of the medical team," he said when contacted.
Ku Mashariman said the case was being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery.
Earlier, a video of the incident went viral, showing the elderly woman in a pink T-shirt being robbed by a motorcyclist, causing her to fall.
