2 people held for forcing Filipino girl to beg in Klang

KLANG: An Indonesian man and a local woman were arrested for exploiting a five-year-old Filipino girl by making her beg here for almost a month.

Police rescued the girl and arrested the 67-year-old man and 50-year-old woman under Op Pintas carried out by Federal Criminal Investigation Department's Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) Division last week.

Federal CID assistant director Senior Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong, who heads the division said a team raided a house in Jalan Goh Hock Huat, Klang at 11pm last Monday.

The house was where the first suspect, an Indonesian man with permanent resident status was arrested.

"The man then led the raiding team to another location in Sungai Kapar Indah, where the victim was being housed under the care of a local woman," he was quoted saying to Metro Ahad.

He said preliminary investigation showed that the woman allegedly takes care of the victim and the man would allegedly takes the girl around Klang to beg.

Soffian said both suspects were arrested to facilitate investigations under Section 14 of the Atipsom Act 2007.
