PUTRAJAYA: A 4-year-old girl died after she allegedly fell from the 16th floor of a government quarters apartment window at Precinct 9, here this morning.
District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said police received a distress call through the MERS 999 helpline at 7.50am.
The caller said a child was found sprawled on the ground floor of the apartment block.
"Upon arriving at the scene, police noticed that she had sustained severe injuries.
"She was rushed to the Putrajaya Hospital in an ambulance, where she was pronounced dead," he said.
Preliminary checks, he said, revealed that the victim was the youngest of two siblings and was usually left alone at home, whenever her father left to drop her elder daughter at school in Precinct 9.
"The mother, who works as a kindergarten teacher, would also leave to work early.
"Based on initial investigation, we believe the victim may have fallen from the master bedroom window."
Asmadi said the case had been classified as sudden death. Police are awaiting a post-mortem report.
