SEREMBAN: A 5-year-old cyclist was killed after being knocked down by a motorist in Bandar Sri Sendayan here last night.
In the incident which occurred about 7pm, the victim was taken to Tuanku Jaafar Hospital (HTJ) for treatment but she was pronounced dead an hour later.
Seremban district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Hatta Che Din said the accident occurred when a 34-year-old man driving a Perodua Ativa was heading towards the guard post of the residential park.
He said that at the same time, the girl riding the bicycle came from the opposite direction behind a pickup truck.
"The cyclist is believed to have swerved onto the path of the SUV. The driver was unable to avoid hitting the victim.
"As a result of the collision, the girl sustained injuries and was taken to HTJ but was pronounced dead at 8.05pm," he said in a statement today.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He advised parents to supervise their children's movements to prevent any untoward incidents.
