SEPANG: Police are looking for a man and woman in connection with the theft of two mobile phones worth nearly RM8,000.
Acting district police chief Superintendent Shan Gopal Krishnan said they received a report on the incident around 10.04pm on Oct 22.
"The complainant who is a woman, claimed that the two suspects posed as potential buyers for the two mobile phones she was selling.
"They met outside a neighbourhood at Sunsuria City and the two suspects, pretended to look at the two phones for a while before speeding off with the devices on a motorcycle," he said in a statement on Sunday.
He said since the incident, CCTV footage from the guard house where the incident occurred has gone viral, showing two individuals believed to be the suspects.
"Based on our investigations, the suspects rode a Yamaha 125Z motorcycle with fake number plates.
"We have classified the case under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft," he said adding that efforts were being made to track down the suspects.
A post was uploaded on Facebook urging netizens with information to come forward.
The post claimed that the couple made a deal with the seller to buy an iPhone 14 Pro and an iPhone 15 Pro.
It also claimed that the two met with the seller and pretended to look at the two phones before speeding away on a motorcycle.
