Jobless man pleads guilty to trespassing on Johor ruler's home [WATCH]

BATU PAHAT: An unemployed man pleaded guilty in the magistrate's court here today to trespassing and damaging property belonging to the Sultan of Johor last month.

Muhammad Qamarulazim Samad, 20, made the plea before magistrate Suhaila Shafi'uddin after the charges were read to him by a court interpreter.

Qamarulazim was accused of entering a home where the Sultan of Johor stores valuables and vandalizing a house key at Public Works Department 10 in Jalan Kluang at 9.30am on Sept 23.

The accused was charged under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 14 years' jail and may include a fine or caning for repeat offences.

Deputy public prosecutor Farah Wahidah Mohd Sharip prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented.

Earlier, the prosecution submitted a psychiatric report from Permai Hospital on whether the accused is fit to be charged.

After reviewing the report, the court found that the accused was fit to stand trial.

On Oct 6, the court ordered the accused to undergo a psychiatric evaluation in accordance with Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

After the guilty plea, the court set Nov 21 for mention of the social report, facts of the case and sentencing.

The accused was granted bail at RM4,000 with one surety. The court ordered him to report to the Parit Raja police station on the first and 15th of each month until the case is completed.
