Cow herder jailed two months for trespassing at Johor Sultan's residence

BATU PAHAT: An assistant cattle and goat herder was sentenced to two months' jail by the magistrate's court here yesterday for trespassing into the residence of the Sultan of Johor and the lock of the door two months ago.

According to Bernama, Magistrate Suhaila Shafi'uddin handed down the sentence to 20-year-old Muhammad Qamarulazim Samad after he pleaded guilty to committing the offence.

Suhaila ordered Qamarulazim to serve his prison term starting from the date of his arrest on Sept 24

Based on the charge sheet, Qamarulazim was accused of breaking into a property belonging to the Johor Ruler, used as a storage facility, and committing mischief by damaging the lock of the door between 11pm on Sept 23 and 9.30am on Sept 24.

He pleaded guilty to committing the offence at Jalan Kluang here.

He was charged under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which carries the maximum 14 years' imprisonment and the court may also impose a fine or whipping upon conviction for repeat offenders.

Deputy public prosecutor Farah Wahidah Mohd Sharip prosecuted while Qamarulazim was represented by Siti Farha Garieb.
