Cops nab Myanmar man who 'used offensive language' towards law enforcement

KUALA LUMPUR: A Myanmar national who allegedly used offensive language against law enforcement in a TikTok video, was apprehended by police yesterday (Oct 28).

Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said the suspect, in his 30s, was detained by police around 7pm in Pandan Jaya.

He said the incident was reported after a cop from the Pandan Indah station watched a TikTok video uploaded by a user identified as @theintheinzaw403."

The 45-second video, which has garnered more than 160,000 views, allegedly contains derogatory remarks directed at the police.

"The suspect tested positive for drugs.

"The remand application for the suspect has been approved for four days, from Oct 29, to allow the police to investigate," Azam said.

The case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, Section 353 of the same code for assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from duty, and Section 186 for obstructing a public servant.

The suspect may also face charges under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for disseminating false information, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

If convicted, he faces up to two years of imprisonment and fines under several Penal Code sections, alongside additional penalties under the Communications and Multimedia Act and the Minor Offences Act.
