GOF foils smuggling of 900 shoes, slippers via illegal Kelantan jetty

PASIR MAS: The General Operations Force foiled a man's attempt to smuggle more than 900 pairs or slippers and shoes into Kelantan via an illegal jetty here last night.

The man had with him 710 pairs of lippers and 196 shoes worth RM55,000 worth of items last night.

The GOF detained him at Pok Dir illegal jetty about midnight.

Southeast Brigade GOF Commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the slippers andshoes were packed in several plastic packages when they were seized.

"The GOF members were conducting their Op Taring Wawasan about midnight when they spotted the illegal activity.

"After checking the packages, they found 710 pair of slippers and 196 shoes believed to have been smuggled from Thailand," he said in a statement.

The 29-year-old suspect was believed to be a transporter hired by an individual to smuggle the items, which were meant for local market, he said.

In a separate case, Nik Ros said a man was arrested with 200kg of smuggled rice worth more than RM1,000 in Tumpat yesterday.
