KUALA LUMPUR: Police have submitted the investigation papers (IP) to the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) regarding four police officers accused of stealing jewellery from a deceased woman.
City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed that the IP was handed over to the AGC yesterday evening after being first referred to the Criminal Investigation Department's D5 Unit (prosecution/law).
"The four policemen were released on police bail on Nov 2," he told reporters after attending a sexual crimes and online scam awareness programme at Taman Tasik Metropolitan Kepong today.
He said that the police had made several suggestions for prosecuting the suspects and are awaiting further instructions.
"The four are still on duty while we await the next steps," he said.
Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said that the time for warnings had passed and that officers who break the law will face serious consequences.
He said the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) was reviewing the officers' track records as part of the ongoing investigation.
The four officers, aged between 28 and 35 and holding ranks from Constable to Corporal, were arrested in Setapak after a jewellery theft was reported by the family of a deceased woman.
The case, initially classified as an inquiry paper (KEP), was reclassified under Section 379 of the Penal Code after further investigation.
The jewellery had belonged to Syazwan Abdullah's 59-year-old daughter, who was found dead in a car at a condominium in Setapak on Oct 1.
