Unemployed man fined RM15,000 for insulting Pahang royalty on TikTok

KUANTAN: An unemployed man was fined RM15,000 by the Sessions Court here today for uploading an offensive image against the Pahang royal institution through TikTok.

Judge Maimoonah Aid handed down the fine on Mohd Nazre Mohd Sani, 44, after he pleaded guilty to committing the offence.

Nazre was charged with knowingly making and initiating the transmission of offensive communications, which was an offensive image with intent to annoy others through TikTok under the handle @mohdnazrebiohdsani.

He had allegedly committed the offence about 4.30am on April 24, with the posting being seen by the Sultan of Pahang's office in Pekan about 2.27pm the same day.

The charge carried a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to one year, or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Faten Hadni Khairuddin pressed for a deterrent sentence to serve as a lesson to the accused as the posting touched on three R (race, religion and royalty) issues.

In mitigation, Nazre, who was unrepresented, said he was remorseful and pleaded for a RM500 fine as he had to support his family, including two children.

Maimoonah fixed bail at RM15,000 in default of six months' jail.
