Air Itam double murder suspect stable, remanded for a week

GEORGE TOWN: The man, who stabbed to death a woman and her father at an apartment in Bandar Baru Farlim, Air Itam here yesterday, has been remanded for a week to assist in investigation.

Acting northeast district police chief Superintendent Lee Swee Sake said the suspect was remanded in his hospital bed here, where he is seeking treatment.

"He is very much alive and in a stable condition.

"We have managed to obtain a seven-day remand order against him, until Nov 14," he told newsmen today.

Lee said news circulating that the suspect has died was fake.

Asked if the suspect tested positive for drugs, Lee said police would need to await for the blood test results.

It was reported yesterday that a 30-year-old woman and her 62-year-old father were stabbed to death by a 32-year-old man at the apartment.

Speculation has been rife that the suspect had sought to pursue the mother of three, but she rejected his advances. An argument then ensued.

When her father tried to break up the fight, the suspect stabbed both the father and daughter to death before turning the knife on himself.

Police have vowed thorough investigation into the double murder.

Meanwhile, a relative, when met at the Penang Hospital Forensic Unit here, said both the suspect and victims knew one another as they are long distance relatives.

He said, prior to the incident, the suspect was said to have visited the victims' home.

"The suspect is believed to know the deceased woman's routine.

"From what we heard, the suspect wanted to pursue the woman but she rejected his advances," he said

Post-mortem on both victims are being conducted now.
