KUALA LUMPUR: Police have confirmed that the case involving the body of an elderly woman found in a freezer at a house in Taman OUG is being investigated as a murder.
City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said a 53-year-old man has been arrested to assist with the investigation.
"We received information on the discovery of the body at 8.48am today.
"The body has been sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre forensic unit for post mortem," he said in a statement.
He said the motive for the murder is still being investigated.
It was reported that a man was believed to have murdered his elderly mother and stuffed her body in a freezer about three years ago after she refused to embrace his religious beliefs.
The murder only came to light today after the man, in his 50s, finally confessed what he had done to the police.
It was learned that the suspect finally came clean to the police because he was running low on savings and suffered from a chronic illness.
Those with information on the case can contact the City police at 03-2115 9999 or the Brickfields police hotline at 03-2297 9722.
