KUALA LUMPUR: The man arrested over the body found in a freezer at a house in Taman OUG here has been remanded for a week.
City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the suspect will be remanded from Nov 13 to 19 to assist in investigations.
"Based on our investigations, no missing persons report was lodged over the victim's disappearance," he said when contacted today.
"The suspect is a 53-year-old unemployed man who has no prior record."
He said the suspect had made several claims, including that he was the victim's son.
"We have taken the suspect's fingerprints and DNA sample for verification.
"We believe the body has been in the freezer since 2021."
Rusdi said the suspect called the police to surrender, and while the reason for his actions was still under investigation, police were not ruling out a personal disagreement as the motive.
It was previously reported that the man allegedly killed his elderly mother after she refused to embrace his religious beliefs. The body was found in the freezer after the suspect confessed to the crime.
Authorities believe the victim, who was in her 80s, was beaten to death in March 2021, before being wrapped in a towel and plastic sheets and placed in the freezer at the suspect's double-storey terrace house.
