KOTA BARU: A woman was arrested for possession of 19 protected birds valued at nearly RM40,000 in Bachok yesterday.
General Operations Force Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the woman was detained in an operation at Kampung Dusun Durian.
The arrest operation, he said codenamed Ops Bersepadu Khazanah, was jointly carried out with the Wildlife Department.
"The team went to the woman's home following public tip-offs. After checking the place, they found three species of the birds. They arrested the woman, 25."
He said the birds — "Murai Batu", "Luris Leher" and "Kunyit Pacat" — were kept there without were found to have been kept there without any document.
He said the case had been handed over to the Bachok police station.
