KUALA LUMPUR: The 53-year-old suspect who allegedly killed his own mother and stored her body in a freezer for more than three years is still undergoing health and mental evaluation in a hospital.
Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the post mortem on the elderly woman's remains to determine her actual cause and time of death was also in progress.
"The suspect is still being treated and undergoing medical evaluations. We need some time to investigate and establish the possible motive behind the killing," he said today (Nov 15).
It is learnt that the crime scene, which was the house where the unemployed suspect lived in Taman OUG here, had been sealed off until police completed their investigations.
Earlier it was reported that the suspect, who suffered from chronic disease and is believed to have recently suffered a stroke, had turned himself in to police on Tuesday morning (Nov 12).
Led by the suspect, police found the 80-year-old woman's body wrapped in towel and plastic inside a freezer in the suspect's house.
Subsequently, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed the suspect's arrest on the same day, before the court granted a remand for seven days until Nov 19.
Checks also showed that the suspect did not have any record and his neighbours described him as a friendly person who smiled and engaged in conversation whenever they met.
