KUALA LUMPUR: The investigation paper on the case of a first-year Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) student allegedly stomped on by a senior on Oct 21 will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) soon.
City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the investigation paper was being finalised.
"Statements have been recorded from 13 individuals and the investigation paper will be submitted to the DPP."
The statement of a third-year UPNM student, accused of stomping on the victim, was taken at the Cheras police headquarters following a report lodged by the victim's father.
The case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt.
The 19-year-old first-year UPNM student sustained fractured ribs and a spinal injury, believed to have been caused by the senior's actions.
The incident allegedly occurred on Oct 21, a day before another trainee at the same university was reported to have sustained burn injuries after being pressed with an iron by a senior. This incident marks the third case of abuse at UPNM in seven years.
In 2017, the university was shaken by the death of cadet officer Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain, who was tortured and burned with a heated iron.
Six former UPNM students were subsequently sentenced to death by hanging for his murder.
