Cops on trail of suspects in Dataran Sunway smash-and-grab incidents

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have identified and are pursuing several suspects involved in a series of smash-and-grab incidents on cars at Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara, recently.

Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Ja'afar said they received three reports regarding the incidents last Thursday (Nov 14) between 9.04pm and 10.10pm.

"The thefts are believed to have occurred earlier that evening, between 7pm and 8.30pm.

"The items stolen included two laptops, a tablet, a power bank, a pair of earbuds, several bank cards and personal documents."

Shahrulnizam said the total estimated loss was approximately RM4,500.

He also said the incidents had gained public attention after being shared online on X on Sunday.

As such, he said police had classified the case under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and are actively searching for the identified suspects.

"Members of the public with information on the incidents are also urged to come forward to assist in investigations. They can contact the Petaling Jaya police headquarters at 03-7966 2222," he said.
