SHAH ALAM: Police arrested 16 suspects who used a lorry to steal metal sheets and scrap items from a factory in Telok Panglima Garang, Kuala Langat, on Nov 9.
They were all arrested within 24 hours of the incident.
Kuala Langat deputy police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Sufian Amin said the arrests followed a police report lodged by the factory manager, a local citizen, at 2.30pm on the day of the incident.
"The complainant said he received a call from an employee who reported that a group of men had entered the factory and stolen metal sheets and scrap items belonging to the factory.
Investigations revealed the suspects had loaded the items onto a lorry they brought without the factory's consent," he said in a statement.
By 3.30pm the same day, police detained 14 local men and two Chinese nationals.
"During the operation, police seized a pistol, 20 live bullets, a parang, a car, and a lorry carrying the stolen items. Investigations revealed that the firearm was legally owned and licensed by Selangor police," Mohd Sufian added.
The suspects, aged between 30 and 50, were remanded for three days until Nov 12 at the Banting police station lockup for further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.
