[UPDATED] Police hunt for armed robbers who escaped with RM1.5 million worth of gold

IPOH: Police are searching for several armed robbers who escaped with gold worth over RM1 million.

Acting Perak police chief Deputy Commissioner Zulkafli Sariaat said police received information about the incident at 9.30am.

He said the robbers wore face masks and were armed with parang.

"At the time of the incident, the victims had just exited a business premises and were carrying a bag containing jewellery weighing about 4.1kg and valued at RM1,549,800.

"As the victims were about to place the bag in their car boot, the suspects rammed the back of the car before robbing them and fleeing in three vehicles," he said in a statement today.

He added that several witnesses recorded the incident on their mobile phones.

"Initial investigations revealed that the suspects were likely using fake vehicle plate numbers.

"Police are gathering evidence at the crime scene," he said.

He urged members of the public with information regarding the incident to visit the nearest police station.
