Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run

KUCHING: A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run incident on Jalan Setia Raja earlier this morning.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the 4.30am incident involved the victim being struck by a vehicle, the type and registration number of which have not been identified.

He said the victim was pronounced dead by medical personnel from Sarawak General Hospital (HUS) who arrived at the scene at 4.45am.

"The victim, who was not carrying identification documents, is believed to be a man in his 30s. His body has been sent to HUS for further action," he said in a statement today.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.

He urged witnesses to the incident to come forward and assist the investigation by contacting Traffic Investigator Inspector Charlie Aloysius at 014-8682068, 082-259900, or visiting any nearby police station.

"Anyone who has a missing family member is also requested to contact Inspector Charlie or any police station," he said.
