PUTRAJAYA: Former PKR vice-president Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin has sarcastically remarked that her former party should treat the RM100,000 she was ordered to pay as a donation.
What is more, she says she will settle it in RM1 notes.
She said this after the Court of Appeal (CoA) today ordered her to pay RM100,000 of the RM10 million originally ruled by the Kuala Lumpur High Court for breaching a bond to the party.
Zuraida emerged from the court room smiling, surrounded by her family and supporters.
"If it was up to me, I would not want to pay a single RM1 to PKR. But they still need donation, even though they are the government now.
"I am grateful that the CoA panel had rightly decided the amount I needed to pay in this suit and it is fair, instead of the 'crazy' RM10 million sought by PKR.
"This serves as a lesson to parties that want to bond people for loyalty. It should be for the struggle and not the party. This is because if our struggles are not aligned, what is the point of staying (in the party)?"
Earlier, the CoA panel led by judge Datuk See Mee Chun made the unanimous decision to uphold the Kuala Lumpur High Court's ruling that Zuraida had breached the bond but overturned the quantum of RM10 million.
See, who sat with Datuk Azman Abdullah and Datuk Ahmad Kamal Md Shahid, had ruled that the RM10 million was not a reasonable compensation but agreed with the finding of the High Court that there was a breach of the bond.
The panel also ordered PKR to pay RM40,000 to Zuraida for costs of the appeal.
