PUTRAJAYA: Former PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail will consult his legal team following the Court of Appeal's decision to reduce the payment imposed on former PKR vice-president Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin, for breaching the party's bond terms.
Saifuddin said they would examine the grounds of the judgment before deciding on the next steps.
"The main difference from the High Court's decision is the quantum (amount payable).
"However, in terms of the facts and the breach of bond terms, those remain established.
"The conviction was upheld by the Court of Appeal, meaning PKR's decision to impose a financial commitment suit was justified.
"We still have one more platform, which is the Federal Court (for an appeal)," he said to reporters after the Home Ministry's monthly assembly here today.
Yesterday, the Court of Appeal ruled that Zuraida has been ordered to pay only RM100,000 of the original RM10 million imposed on her by the Kuala Lumpur High Court for breaching a bond binding her to the party.
A three-member Court of Appeal panel led by Datuk See Mee Chun made the unanimous decision to uphold the Kuala Lumpur High Court's ruling that she had breached the bond but overturned the quantum of RM10 million.
See, who sat with Datuk Azman Abdullah and Datuk Ahmad Kamal Md Shahid, had ruled that the RM10 million was not a reasonable compensation amount.
On June 23, 2023, High Court Judge Datuk Akhtar Tahir ordered the former Ampang MP to pay RM10 million and RM50,000 in costs to PKR after ruling that the bond was a valid and binding contract.
Dissatisfied, Zuraida filed an appeal on the entire decision at the CoA.
In 2020, Saifuddin filed the lawsuit on behalf of the party, alleging that Zuraida had breached the terms of the bond she had signed.
