RANTAU PANJANG: A man's body, with both hands tied behind his back, was found at Ebek illegal jetty on the Thai side yesterday, believed to have been murdered.
The body, clad only in long pants, was discovered by several Thai locals around 5pm.
A Thai police spokesperson said the villagers saw an unidentified body floating on the Golok River, which separates Sota illegal jetty near Jeram Perdah, and immediately alerted the authorities.
"The body, with both hands tied behind his back, is believed to have been murdered before being dumped into the river," the spokesperson said.
"He is thought to have died more than 24 hours before the body was found."
The body was sent to Sungai Golok Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The spokesperson added that Thai authorities believe the victim, whose identity has yet to be confirmed, was involved in a dispute with locals that led to his murder.
It is common for criminals operating along the border to shoot or kill rivals and dispose of the bodies in the Golok River.
