Student assault: 3 arrested over dormitory brawl

SERI ISKANDAR: Police have arrested three male students from a local higher education institution for allegedly assaulting an 18-year-old victim.

Perak Tengah district police chief Superintendent Hafezul Helmi Hamzah said the incident occurred on Sunday, prompting the victim's father to file a police report.

"On Tuesday, at 6.45pm, we received a report from the victim's father stating that his son had been assaulted by a group of peers in a dormitory at the institution," he said in a statement today.

"The victim sustained multiple injuries, including a cut to his ear, swelling above his right eyebrow, bruises on his left arm and leg, and red marks on his abdomen and neck," he said.

He added that following the report, three suspects, aged between 18 and 20, were arrested and remanded for three days to assist with the investigation.

"Preliminary investigations suggest the assault stemmed from misunderstandings and provocations among the students in the dormitory room," Hafezul said.

The victim received outpatient treatment at Seri Iskandar Hospital.

The suspects have since been released on police bail.

The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
