BUTTERWORTH: Sixteen alleged Pacific Siva organised crime group members have been detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).
The 16, who have been allegedly part of the gang for the past eight years, are M. Subramaniam, 44; G. Tilagarajan, 36; M. Kesavan, 39; N. Sharvin, 26; T.S. Ligen Kumar, 26; M. Dineswaren, 24; P. Kirubaagaran, 23; G. Meheshkumara, 27; M. Janagesh, 28; R. Logeswaaraaj, 30; K. Hendry, 44; M. Sivasangkaran, 37; M. Partiben, 29; S. Arunan, 32; S. Denneswaran, 28; and V. Alagis, 31.
When the charge was read out jointly in Tamil before sessions court judge Nor Azah Kasran, all the accused merely nodded to indicate they understood the charge.
This was because the case was framed under Sosma, which falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charge sheet, 14 of the accused, aged between 23 and 44, are alleged to have committed the offence between June 2016 and Nov 26, 2024.
The remaining two accused, aged 32 and 44, are alleged to have committed the offence between February 2019 and Nov 26, 2024.
Deputy public prosecutors Yazid Mustaqim Roslan and Lina Hanini Ismail prosecuted while 13 of the accused were represented by their respective lawyers.
The court fixed Feb 7 for mention to complete the documents to transfer the proceedings to the High Court.
