Woman burns motorcycle to halt repossession

TAIPING: A trader, angered by an attempt to repossess her motorcycle, acted recklessly by setting the vehicle on fire at Jalan Masjid, Pokok Assam, yesterday.

The incident, which occurred at 3.30pm, caused a minor commotion when several men, believed to be repossession agents, tried to tow away the Honda RSX motorcycle.

According to a viral video, the motorcycle had been overdue for payments for months, but the owner refused to cooperate with the repossession process.

Amid the confrontation, a woman in her 40s, believed to be the motorcycle's owner, poured petrol on the vehicle and set it ablaze.

The Taiping Fire and Rescue Department (BBP) quickly responded to the scene and extinguished the fire, but the motorcycle sustained over 80 per cent damage.

The woman has since been detained and taken to the Taiping District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further investigation under arson charges.

A video of the dramatic incident, showing the woman burning her motorcycle near a roadside stall, has gone viral on social media.

It is believed the incident occurred after the owner repeatedly refused to cooperate with repossession agents over overdue payments.
